Quick Fix Remedies for Stinking car interiors

We’ve just stepped into your car and we are like, “what’s that smell?”. Cars develop a kind of smell or odor over time from food, pets, messes and various other sources. It’s like every single thing that steps into the car leaves its smell all around. Though everyone wants to keep the new car smell in their car for as long as possible, it is highly unlikely. Once you realize that your car is really stinking, the next thing you think of is how to get rid of that pungent odour / smell, because believe us having a car that smells like a garbage bin is an awful experience that neither you nor your passengers will be able to sit through.

There are lots of techniques you can use to deodorize or de-stink your car, which actually starts with you practicing good hygiene and looking for the source of the lingering smell in your car. If not, here are few tips.

Vacuum:

Just like the nooks and corners of your house need a thorough cleaning, the interior of your car also needs one. The fabric of the car/ upholstery tends to attract the air around the car and that is why most odors get trapped in the fabric. Vacuuming the interior of your car can help in getting rid of these bad car odors. Make use of the special upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaners and reach even the smallest of corners and areas, because you never know the smell may be coming from those tiny little nooks. If you think vacuum will not do the job, then take help of those steam cleaners.

Baking Soda:

Another trick to get that stinky smell out of your car is to sprinkle some baking soda over the seats of your car. Let the baking soda stay for some time and the fabric of the upholstery to absorb the smell. If you see some improvement in the smell around the car, then vacuum the powder or simply sprinkle some more baking soda over the seats, if the smell still lingers. You also need to check your vehicle cabin filter from time or time and see if it needs replacement or repair. Have a look at your vehicle’s owner manual to locate its position and the steps of replacement.

Charcoal:

Charcoal boasts the ability to absorb dirt and impurities. Similarly, it also carries the tendency of absorbing bad smell. This makes it the finest substance for removing bad smell from your car. Charcoal is widely used in water and air filters for the purpose of purifying air and water. Grab few chunks of charcoal and leave them in the car for few days. After few days you yourself will find an improvement in the smell of the car as it is completely absorbed into the charcoal.

Air Fresheners:

Opt for natural air fresheners, one which is obviously your favorite scent and try to mask the car odor with it. You can dip some cotton balls in the vanilla syrup and leave them around in the car. If you are a big coffee freak then leave the jar of ground coffee open in the car. After few days you’ll notice the car smells like coffee. You can also go for mint extracts or essential oils.
